About the Tutor: Diane Berkley
Emigrating from Scotland when I was six, my grandmother and mother were special influences on
my knitting journey which spans 60 years.
My knitting experience has grown through the garments, shawls and accessories I have been
commissioned to produce from individuals and commercially for wool shops as sample knits for
display.
Through designing and making knitted sweaters in a variety of yarns and combinations, I have a
wide experience of beautiful wool and how wonderful a garment can look when finished
professionally.
Working with Liz Mitchell Atelier, I have been able to design and knit lovely garments for her
clients.
As a grandmother of nine grandchildren, I have developed a love of knitting toy animals, dolls and
their clothing as requests have been constant for birthday presents.
My passion is for designing and knitting lace shawls and I have experience in teaching lace knitting
and all the techniques required to produce beautiful wraps and shawls.
For many years now, I have organised and coordinated a knitting group at a local library and
attended other textile groups which have afforded attendees many opportunities of learning what is
required to be a proficient knitter. Teaching people new skills in knitting has been a joy.
